LHC frees 28 kiln workers
LAHORE: Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday freed 28 Christian kiln workers after they were recovered from illegal custody of a kiln owner, Akbar of Raja Jung, Kasur. Yousaf Masih, a relative of the bonded labourers, had moved a habeas corpus petition. The petitioner’s counsel, Asif Mahmood, said the family members were daily-wage employees at Akbar’s kiln, but he refused to pay them wages and detained them when they demanded their wages. Mahmood said Yousaf escaped from detention and approached the court for the recovery of his relatives. On the court’s direction, a bailiff recovered the detainees and produced them in court. staff report
